Michael Carrick Agrees Return to Manchester United as Interim Manager
Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has reached a verbal agreement with the club to return as interim manager, following the recent dismissal of Ruben Amorim.
Carrick has been selected by the Red Devils ahead of former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as the club looks to stabilize the team during a challenging period. According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the agreement is close to being finalized.
“Michael Carrick has accepted all conditions of Manchester United’s contract proposal,” Romano wrote on X on Monday evening.
“The agreement is almost done and it will be sealed THIS week, as expected.”
The 44-year-old is set to take over the reins two weeks after Amorim was sacked, with United eager to restore structure and confidence within the squad. Carrick is no stranger to the role, having previously served as interim manager during the 2021 season following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure.
Carrick’s first match in charge will be a high-pressure encounter, as he prepares to lead Manchester United in the Manchester Derby on Saturday’s early kick-off against city rivals Manchester City.
The appointment brings a familiar face back to Old Trafford, with the club hoping Carrick’s deep understanding of Manchester United’s culture and expectations will help guide the team through this transitional phase.
